For Water Sports Enthusiasts Only

  • When you pop your clogs, there are a number of different ways to dispose of the body. Well I suppose only two, burial or cremation but it is the latter that gives you the options.  Do you pop them in an urn and place them on your mantelpiece, scatter them on their favourite place? The more esoteric can have them shot into space or turned into a diamond.

Scattering into the sea is often popular, especially amongst the sailor boys. Now you can go one better. You can be ‘buried’ on The Neptune Memorial Reef off the coast of the Florida Keys. Said to be ‘based’ on the Lost City of Atlantis, this huge man made reef that covers over 16 acres of the sea floor will have room for over 125,000 ‘people’. It is being created like an underground park so that divers can visit it, whilst at the same time being an ecological site that will attract fish, coral and other types of marine organisms.

Made from special concrete and bronze and incorporating statues and other architectural details, it will make an unusual resting place for anyone, although frankly by this time one would be beyond caring where they went.

It was the brainchild of diver, Gary Levine, designed by Kim Brandell and is run by the Neptune Society which is one of the leaders in alternative funerals.

If you are looking for an unusual type of immortality, this could be your answer, providing your nearest and dearest don’t mind getting rather wet when they go to put flowers on your resting place.

Where can you have ashes turned into Diamonds, that is very unique. Fun blog btw.
